BRANDING, COPY AND PACKAGE DESIGN
OVERVIEW CocoaBon is a socially responsible chocolate brand developed to address ethical and environmental challenges within the cacao supply chain. This project involved the creation of a comprehensive brand identity, narrative, packaging system, and copywriting, all grounded in principles of regenerative agriculture, transparent sourcing, and direct trade with smallholder farms in West Africa.
Solo Project
Timeframe: 8 weeks
Tools used: Illustrator, Indesign, ChatGPT (for mockups and initial copy)
Most chocolate brands gloss over the ethical issues behind their products, leaving small cacao farmers underpaid and underrepresented. Consumers want transparency and impact, but the market lacks brands that communicate both.
Process
AUDIENCE CocoaBon was informed by research into ethical issues in the chocolate industry, including underpaid labor, child exploitation, and lack of supply chain transparency—especially in West Africa. I also studied consumer behavior in urban markets like Seattle, focusing on Millennial and Gen Z shoppers who value sustainability, fair trade, and thoughtful design. These insights shaped CocoaBon’s mission, tone, and visual identity—positioning it as a joyful, transparent brand built on real impact.
INSPIRATIION I drew inspiration from Japanese and Scandinavian packaging, particularly desserts. I wanted this product to feel trustworthy without using forceful messaging.
